LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Democrats won big Tuesday night, sweeping all three open at-large seats on the Lynchburg City Council.
There were nine candidates in total on the ballot.
Christina Delzingaro, Dave Henderson and Nat Marshall finished in the top three.
The three Democrats running together as Team "Better Together Lynchburg" said they hope to take the city in a different direction.
They said they want to focus on city services, education and addressing challenges facing the community.
Marshall said one of the first priorities would be making sure city employees feel appreciated for the work they do.
Very first thing, even before we started working on education and all the other things, is to make folks feel appreciated, make them feel good about the services that they're providing for us," Marshall said.
Delzingaro said she wants a City Council that represents everyone in the community, while taking a closer look at issues like education.
We want a City Council that works for every single member of the community, not just some people, and works hard, because this is a great city, but our schools are not doing very well. We have other challenges that we need to be addressing and addressing head on," Delzingaro said.
Henderson said he hopes to bring a vision focused on the issues that matter most to Lynchburg residents.
I have a vision for this city, and I have hope and promise that we're going to be focused on the things that matter most to people," Henderson said.
